12X14 inch, acrylic on canvas

I painted A Day at the Homestead because I’ve always been drawn to the old farmsteads scattered across the Alberta landscape. You can still find old buildings, barns, fences, and pieces of farm equipment left behind from farms that were once busy and thriving.
Farming has changed so much over the years, with modern equipment and more efficient ways of doing things. But when I come across one of these old homesteads, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. I start to imagine the families who lived there, the work they did, and what a day on that farm might have been like.
For me, these old places are more than just buildings. They’re reminders of Alberta’s farming history and the people who helped shape the landscape we see today.
